... seriously, this is disingenuous. We as a species as not information-neutral - we are FAR more prone to believe repeated assertions (illusory truth effect), & more affected by emotive falsehood than mundane truth. Groups from anti-vaccine to #QANONS know this, so do @Facebook

..we also know exposure to anti-vaccine conspiracy theory makes parents vaccine hesitant (h/t
@DrDanielJolley et al) AND Facebook a primary vector of this, which has been causing harm for years.@Facebook know this - they just see all engagement as profitable & don't give a damnShow this thread -
None of this information is secret - not for nothing did I include 4+ chapters in
#TheIrrationalApe on both how we're impacted by disinformation & how online falsehoods skew our perspective. Zuckerberg knows it too - he just wants to sell dereliction of responsibility as "choice"Show this thread

His wife is a pediatrician, which makes this all the more infuriating. No excuse for this amount of irresponsibility.

When the www started in the early 1990s it was hailed as a democratising medium. But 30 years on and it seems the complete opposite. A handful of large corporations is contolling information flow and shaping public opinion globally. Manufacturing Consent online.

So true..we were sold on this thought...the potential of it..the openness...the communication...the knowledge...a shared future and unity of sorts...what it devolved into is quite the opposite.
