Last week a dubious article ran in @guardian / observer linking mobile phones to cancer & asserting a conspiracy of immense scale. Here in Observer, I debunk that narrative - cell-phones don't cause cancer. No conspiracy required.https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/21/mobile-phones-are-not-a-health-hazard …

....in Jeff's defence, he did apologize quite sincerely after my reply, which I didn't expect. I replied hence. It's very easy to depersonalise online, so we ought to be mindful of it...pic.twitter.com/4kHGrO6ChP

My sister used her mobile phone like a walkie talkie for years after she had breast cancer. A “senior doctor” said they were responsible for brain tumors on “that side of the head” she could explain why the majority of cellphone users didn’t get tumors.

Sorry Dr Grimes, I had my tinfoil hat on while I read that and my take home message was: "mobile phones make us live longer" 😂

Good piece David. Important not to let such questionable assertions go unchallenged.

Good response. I think it would be goos for the @guardian to link to it from the original article too - otherwise in the future people will read that without seeing it's been rebuted. (actually my view is that publishing it is like shouting FIRE in a cinema - shd be withdrawn)

The link to the notorious Nyberg-Hardell "scientists against WiFi" list (reminiscent of creationists' "Scientsts against Evolution" and "Scientists against AGW" lists) did not reassure, or bolster the authors' credibility.pic.twitter.com/sNHTbMdZ1T

The story's link for "Joel Moskowitz..., who helped circulate the petition" was automagically inserted. It is priceless but it might not have been the authors' first choice. https://www.acsh.org/news/2017/02/28/uc-berkeley-psychologist-joel-moskowitz-cell-phone-wi-fi-truther-10928 …pic.twitter.com/TpcWU7Aaba
