oh man, what do you know? i see electronic trading in your bio, i spent like 10 years in HFT, but am confused about the "banking" side of things i guess like... what is "the financial system?" where is most of the money in it?
Ironically I think of tradfi as being quite decentralized itself, you have different firms & customers in totally discrete ecosystems pursuing totally different business models. My framework for thinking about finance is that it's a sort of meta-technology that lets us transform the relationship that value has with time. You can see this instantiated in different areas of finance, e.g. retail lending lets borrowers lever their future flows for cash now
