Why do they call Lewis Hamilton an athlete? Race car drivers want to be seen as athletes may promote endorsement money. First golfers became athletes, now race car drivers, is spelling bee next? For God's sakes, you are on your feet the whole time!
Bad take, it requires insane physical skill to manage the car. The drivers are in peak condition, you literally can't drive an F1 car without having incredible athletic capacity

I don’t get this bc the implication is that you could stick anyone that looks like Phil Mickelson from 10 yrs ago in a car and they’d have the same shot as Lewis. The g-force in the Max crash was smth like 57 G’s. They’re routinely pulling 6.0-6.5 in turns and during heavy brakes
