Check out the hospitalisation and death numbers for UK in Dec/Jan wave vs the wave we have now. Similar case numbers, far fewer serious cases.

The problem in the US right now is not that overall vaccination rates are too low (they are actually pretty good) it’s that specific people who *really* need vaccinations (elderly, preexisting conditions) are not getting them.

It's also the clustered geography of the unvaxed in places like e.g. the deep south which coincide with vulnerable populations that make conditions ideal for dangerous outbreaks like what we are currently seeing in Louisiana
