You notice the sleigh of hand they do because when they install it they measure your speed directly from the wall and in my case it was literally 10x slower through the default router they then attached

can confirm, returning all their devices to them and buying your own (superior) ones is a speed-improvement and a cost savings. also you dont have to deal with their nightly pushing of updates /signal that cause device to reboot
