Honestly I never understood Carnap’s syntax argument. Heidegger’s German is obviously valid if a bit unusual.

its defo about the syntactic validity of metaphysical claims, but there was also concern from Carnap re: the semantic content of metaphysical sentences--he was pretty clear that the phrase "The Nothing itself nihilates" was neither syntactically valid nor semantically meaningful

to be clear i also regard this criticism as not particularly meaningful, particularly in light of kripke's work on analyzing the semantic content of philosophical claims using modal logic
