What does the word “investing” mean to you? Is it different than “saving”? How is it different from “betting”? What’s your mental model look like?

"Investing" is when you buy something in the expectation it will improve your productivity/output. "Speculation" (betting) is when you buy something you think will appreciate in value. "Saving" is when you do not consume.

These are idiosyncratic definitions, but they are also correct. Purchasing a stock is not investing, unless you are a company trying to do a merger.
