Yeah this is more about social mores which I suspect is going to be an ongoing conversation in a post covid world
The big deal is "smart people" have been itching to dunk on folks w/ genuine concern about people's feelings, the possibility that "science" and "politicians" might be wrong (again) and that caution is smart choice here. The "smart set" can't wait to rooster strut their smarts.

I do feel that tension. I now walk with a surgical mask around my wrist and put it on when I pass people with masks. SF has a great vaxx rate, so with relaxed CDC guidelines, I’ll probably completely drop it soon.
Though I also have friends who aren’t ready to give them up, and I’ll mask up around them until they are comfortable.
It's my belief that when there is an FAQ in the public interest, the answers to those questions are newsworthy, even if the question isn't a science question, it's not an academic journal after all. It's fine if people want advice on what's polite and what's not IMO
