Alternatively, it's a reflection of how society has increasingly turned the trappings of adulthood (homeownership, nuclear family, stable income) into unobtanium--late 20 to early 30somethings grasping at straws to find anything that makes this brutal gilded age feel worthwhile

My gen (Gen X) expressed a lack of hope (and sometimes a lack of anything) but there were still avenues to some form of the American Dream. I really feel for anyone younger than me cuz it seems bleak. I hope I'm just being pessimistic but I doubt it.
