When a senior leader asks the PM why we are running late (always running late) the answer should be precise and grounded in the affected systems
Most of them don't read the code! And like not all PMs are engineers and most don't need to be, but even nontech PMs should be able to recite the architecture IMO. At GS many simply couldn't, and it made explaining project sizing very difficult without resorting to hand waving

this is where having a highly organized and communicative technical product lead makes a big difference. a team of flat engineers or defacto head of everyone doesn't work. product manager needs to be business focused, which version of sql being used is just not at that level
