And not for nothing, but if an economic policymaker (which is what the parliamentarian is) says that wages don't have knock-on effects on the federal budget it's probably worth questioning their motives

A functioning democracy would not have a filibuster. If you read the Constitution you will find we are not a functioning democracy. As Ben Franklin said,we are a republic, if we can keep it.
