I asked about permits on my local FB group and immediately got people saying "we'd rather cruise 25 minutes for parking and end up a half-mile from our houses than pay $50 for a permit" ... smh
it's also really stupid that none of the mayoral candidates are even floating the idea. You float that idea you get tabloid cover treatment calling you an enemy of the city. That's how you separate yourself from the pack. If I'm a second tier candidate - I'd make that move.
Resident parking permits where they exist are usually free or only cost some nominal fee (like $20/year) though - because their usual purpose is so people can be NIMBYs and say "this is MY street, YOU go park somewhere else", not to make people pay for curbside parking.
Too bad really, cities are passing up a change to monetize a perfectly good revenue stream and minimize carbon emissions at the same time
