I think one of the reasons Mythic Noble Romantic Reaction seems to be found in all civilizations is the perspective of writers. There are no chapters of the Illiad about the demigod Achilles getting the runs due to poor battle camp sanitation.

A related thought but I think there's probably a very hard to bridge emotional inferential distance between people who grew up with unhappy parents vs happily ever after parents and it comes up especially when talking about how life and relationships were better in the past

Yeah there are a lot of uncomfortable feelings that come up when people from stable loving families talk to people who have had to basically cut their families off. I feel weirdly blessed that I had experiences of both kinds in my childhood/adolescence

Yeah there's also stuff like, "my parents love me but both of them had to divorce someone awful to get here"
