This has generally been my observation as well. A lot of people, especially fairly ocmfortable liberal or moderate people, tend to have a difficult time with this. The fact that some people simply enjoy being malicious is outside of a lot of peoples experience.https://twitter.com/loudpenitent/status/1291579796305059841 …

Yep. Had to process a lot of Jr. High trauma for similar reasons.

I think a lot about this. Most people think of school bullies as coming from backgrounds of low self-esteem/marginalization but it was mostly the rich kids who picked on me growing up
-
For me it was the teachers who were worst, whether by bullying directly or by siccing kid bullies on other kids, and I honestly think it helped prepare me for this historical moment Like at least I'm not constantly surprised

when i was young i formulated a simple hypothesis: children are monsters. adults are also monsters, but they have learned to hide it better. nothing since has entirely disabused me of this.
-
The adult monsters are rewarded because they are your monsters who are on your side... Until they are not.

Not all school kids are bullies or their victims: there's a lot of bystanders among school kids who, once adult, will just shrug and inimize stuff that happened *next* to them because it didn't happen *directly* to them
-
From experience a lot of those bystanders are less innocent than they think they are
