#Arecibo has always meant so much to me, growing up as an astronomy-obsessed little kid in PR. As an undergrad I got to attend an observing session which was beyond cool. 10yrs ago I married @AstroAhura at the observatory. The decommissioning is so sad

Besides liking for space science,as a big fan of Bond movies,fight scene from GOLDEN EYE comes to mind-sure at lease a few would've read about the huge dish after that. Read trusses are weakened and dish has to be taken down.Hope a new (bigger!) one with better support comes up

Cables are damaged; central platform will have to be lowered. Trusses are fine.

Demolish and build a new one seems the best option. There probably isn’t a better site in the world.
