    Frankly surprised that Apple did the right thing and included LaTeX for equation support in iBooks Author.

        @drdrang Does iBooks Author have real LaTeX (with packages) or is it just a LaTeX syntax subset?

        @mjtsai All I know is this: http://www.apple.com/ibooks-author/

        @drdrang I wonder if this is some sort of Apple internal version of @mathjax or if they rolled their own LaTeX converter.

      2. Dr. Drang ‏@drdrang 23 Oct 2012

        @matt_blackwell The @MathJax people haven’t said anything today, so I’m guessing it’s Apple’s own code.

        @drdrang @matt_blackwell iBooks Author uses blahtex + some magic to overcome webkit's MathML deficits. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5321

        @drdrang Ooh, that's going to be nice. So, does that mean there could be a Markdown+equations -> some_format -> iBooks Author?

      2. Dr. Drang ‏@drdrang 23 Oct 2012

        @RyanGray I’m wondering if you can generate HTML+MathML, open it in a browser, select and copy, then paste into iBooks Author.

        @drdrang @paolino I’m not surprised. Would-be authors found math a real problem in iBooks Author.

        @jpgoldberg @drdrang I would have expected something custom and shiny, but they absolutely did the right thing here. See UNIX as base OS.

        @paolino @drdrang Apple’s wants authors. Authors can easily adapt some existing stuff if they don’t have to redo math.

      @drdrang that’s huge - does that make this the first e-publishing platform with LaTeX support?
