Taking a break from my social media break to help Rea Leonard, who is trying to raise money for a swimming training trip and her club. Please read Rea's fundraising appeal below. Her dedication to her team, her club, the sport, and growing is admirable. If you an support, DM

Thank you to those who have reached out and donated in support of Rea and Cougar Aquatics. The contributions, the love, and the display community means so much to all of us. For those who still want to contribute, thank you. DM me

If you simply send them a link or make them aware of "campus resources" and dont respond to them as a person, showing care and interest, that is a problem. We hear over and over again, "say something." Yet, we must ask, are we as individuals and institutions, listening?

If someone shares their struggles with depression, anxiety, and sadness , 1) make them aware of resources on campus; 2) be a source of support: check in on them; be a source of care, community, compassion; and 3) Listen. Hear people without judgment & dismissal

There are so many fighting private battles. Higher education can be an extremely lonely place even though we are surrounded by so much all of the time. This is incredibly sad.

I've been thinking about how kindness is undervalued in academia. Not nonexistent, but undervalued. Treating each other's work with respect and empathy, and offering support, doesn't just make for a more comfortable work environment--I truly believe it fosters better scholarship.

Everyone in academia, especially white executive admins, should read this essay by my UNH colleague . I feel this so hard. And we rarely hear in these academic pubs from folks openly calling themselves Chicanx — notable for that too.

After undergraduate and during graduate school, I had opportunity to coach HS (and Middle school) sports. I regret not continuing with this
