People are looking for meaning in their lives, but ordering more tests (and getting false positives) is not the way.
Get a good history, ask people about about their ideas/feelings/expectations and do a proper exam. Then work together as part of a relationship. #ThisIsMedicine

I have written study protocols and study reports for clinical trials of diagnostic tests. Most people do not understand that tests can have false-positive and false-negative results. Tests should be used only if they have good test performance characteristics.

Ah yes, the differential for “feeling off” we spent so much time memorizing in med school.

1 adrenal fatigue 2 leaky gut 3 thyroid “dysfunction” 4 sex hormone “imbalance” 5 drug reaction 6 obscure vitamin and mineral deficiency Or probably just stress, poor sleep, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, and chronic dehydration. Too bad you can’t bill for that.

Every single day I spend HOURS talking people out of tests ordered by DC or NDs or, worse, explaining the “results” of such bogus tests. Also, I discontinue way more meds and supplements than I start. Some of my pats take >20 naturopathic supplements. How can we stop this?

@drwillcole pretends to have “complete training” in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, blood chemistry etc as well as in “conventional medical diagnosis” and “extensive training” in “clinical nutrition”, whatever that may mean. YOU’VE GOT ZERO TRAINING IN THESE, CHARLATAN!pic.twitter.com/V7siNrIC9A

“I'd recommend working with an integrative or functional medicine doctor who is well-versed in these labs and how to read them from a holistic perspective.” Did you know MDs don’t read labs from a “holistic perspective”?
