My new book 'Space: 10 things you should know' is out NOW! 🎉😱💃🏻 It covers what I reckon are the 10 biggest ideas in astronomy right now, written so that anyone, whether a complete newbie or long-time enthusiast can enjoy. Get it in-store or online:

NASA astronaut Christina Koch is coming home tonight, after 328 days in space. She’s set the record for longest continuous spaceflight by a woman, and she’s just shy of Scott Kelly’s US record of 340 days

Ok everyone, I’ve just found someone named Hannah (palindrome) who is turning 22 (palindrome) on 02/02/2020 (palindromapalooza). We can all go home now.

If anyone was wondering what the going rate for Twitter verification is these days (the little blue tick after someone's handle), according to this email I got from an influencer PR company it's EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS. FOR A BLUE TICK 😳🤯🤦🏻‍♀️

NEW TOMORROW! Without her we wouldn't have a three-dimensional sky...in fact, post-1920s rests on her shoulders. But have you ever heard her name? We're asking from 🔭 WHO WAS HENRIETTA LEAVITT? 🌌

Of course I’m over the moon for Ash finally catching a Dragonite But there’s no way he would’ve caught a Dragonite with a Poké ball. He would’ve needed AT LEAST an Ultra Ball. Setting unrealistic expectations for kids these days

I made a video a few months ago on the history of exoplanets - planets outside our own solar system - which was all about the legacy Mayor and Queloz’s discovery built

Had fun at the 200th anniversary celebrations in London on Thursday night 🔭🥂 Was great to meet Michel Mayor who won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics (along with Didier Queloz) for the discovery of the very first exoplanet, 51 Pegasi b, in 1995 🤗

6/ Episode 5: ‘The Energy Experience’ This episode, featuring an energy healer, is where things go off the rails. Grade: F. “It is irresponsible to air this episode after four shows on valid health research because it gives energy healing a veneer of legitimacy." —

1/ We wanted to be outraged by Gwyneth Paltrow’s new Netflix show, . It wasn’t as bad as we feared. Still, it contains some very serious issues. Before the show launches, graded each episode so you know what you’re getting into:

Can't find who the specific designer was to thank them for the thought that went into this but the project was led by 👏

I think this new logo is modern, intriguing and makes the stand out from other learned society logos. It represents so much of the work done by both professional and amateur fellows of the society And most importantly it looks coooool 😎

I've also heard people say it's not obvious from the logo that it's an astronomy society. Well, I don't think the old logo with Herschel's telescope was obvious to many that it was a telescope either.

Now I know that it won't be to everyone's taste and there are some arguments that the RAS should have consulted members before changing it, or held a "logo design" competition and vote. But that doesn't take away the time and careful thought that went into designing this

And there are probably so many more interpretations that I haven't even thought of yet. I'm sure people will have their own to chip in on this thread

The talent of the graphic designer who came up with this astounds me. The fact that a few simple circles can represent everything from our eyes, through solar system & planetary studies, stellar studies, black hole studies, chemistry and cosmology is truly incredible.

Sticking on the Big Bang theme, in the negative space, I also see it reflecting Hydrogen - the most abundant element in the Universe - with one electron orbiting one proton in the centre.
