Apple emailing people who bought Aperture from the Mac App Store is a bit hypocritical. No other developers can.http://www.macrumors.com/2015/03/05/aperture-removal-email-apple/ …

@drbarnard It would only be hypocritical if they ever purported to believe that 3rd party developers are on an equal footing.

@danielpunkass True, but do you think App Store shoppers gets that? Apple’s apps break rules and set expectations we can’t deliver.

@drbarnard Not to mention the previous treatment of Aperture, they granted free licenses in the App Store to anybody who owned a prior copy.

I think it’s a good thing Apple doesn’t give the email address of every customer to developers, but Apple should play by their own rules.

If teams inside Apple had to navigate iOS/OS X development the way 3rd parties do, things would likely be very different.

@drbarnard indeed. They would feel how crippling certain aspects are.

@drbarnard App developers know exactly what they're getting into on the iOS platform, so how is that hypocritical?

@thomasfuchs By emailing Mac App Store customers directly, they acknowledge that having direct contact with customers is needed at times.

@drbarnard “We’re, uh, …testing a new feature! You’ll have access to it ‘soon’. We promise.” (*Apple giggles behind your back*)

@drbarnard not integrate with the Photo picker, or be some sort of installer instead of a sandboxed app.

@drbarnard Could you submit a build with description reminding app will be removed. Or would Apple metadata reject it?

@drbarnard it's anyone that bought Aperture, not just MAS purchases.... Do agree, though, there should be a mechanism to reach customers....
