    Some seriously silly questions about "why Victoria" at the presser right now. Virus transmission is a highly stochastic (i.e. random) process. This type of rapid cluster growth was inevitable. That it has occurred here in Victoria is pure chance. Contact tracing efforts amazing.

    Finishing off ARC reviews and wondering when those in positions of power in are going to have a serious chat about the insane length of these applications? This has to change, it is completely unsustainable for the grant writers, the reviewers, and the panel members.

    So this thing has been annoying me so much I went ahead and wire-framed an alternative form design to show how this stuff can be done better. The TL;DR is be honest, explicit and ask for consent upfront!

    Wireframe showing a form asking people about their race / skin tone: "Why do we ask for this? We want to improve the diversity of our data products. It's important that we have sufficient representation of POC in the training data we supply, to help Machine Learning algorithms perform equally well for all people. Do you consent? Would you be open to (CorpName) using your likeness in photos or video to build training data sets? Note that this is not a legal release, rather an in-principle agreement. If we proceed we will share release forms specific to the project for you to review and sign. Yes / No"

    Okay....what the heck! Just witnessed someone criticize a person for not publishing a single paper in 2020. I sat there thinking someone has to state the obvious. No one did. So, I said “well, it might have something to do with the fact that there was a pandemic” Silence.
