What’s the difference between lies & post-truth in politics? For more on this see brief intro by on the liar's paradox & see schoolchildren discussing truth & lies in the House of Commons here

Of course Boris Johnson would like us all to forget 'Brexit', now his false promises and lies are confronted by reality. The problem for him is that we won't stop reminding him of the damage he has done. Brexit is an historic mistake that will forever define his premiership.

I love the USA. But just as Trump is not the USA, neither is it America-bashing to point out the EU has *far higher* animal welfare standards than the US. Those standards were built up over many years by UK MEPs, UK officials and in conjunction with UK animal welfare charities.

So good to hear saying rights of journalists must be protected in the Commons. Perhaps he will have a word with to find out why I was banned from the Greenwich speech when the Times sketchwriter was allowed in

For four years under Tony Blair's government I worked for the Daily Mail. His No10 absolutely hated us - you might say justifiably - and yet we were never banned from any briefing involving civil servants under his government, ever.

Laura Kuenssberg from the BBC, Robert Peston from ITV and Beth Rigby from Sky News were among those who left in protest when No.10 tried to limit the press briefing. Gotta give them kudos for that I suppose.

Just reading about a failing state where the leader is wilfully destroying the economy and refuses to release details of foreign interference and now wants to control which press has access to government briefings and sorry that’s us.

I can safely say that in 22 years of being a political journalist, I've never experienced a day like today. No.10 sources now insisting that political editors like myself "are not banned, they are just not invited".

This doesn't apply to all media, obviously - there have been some admirable journalists speaking out against the attacks on diplomats, civil servants and judges - but there is still a fair amount of truth in it.

Breaking/ just tried to ban certain national newspapers from a Number 10 briefing. This is truly sinister stuff. Hats off to the BBC, ITV, Mail, Telegraph & Times for walking out too in protest, rather than let him get away with it.

When it comes to likely Brexit deal, we've gone from 'exact same benefits', to 'frictionless trade', to some friction, to now a choice btw Canada style deal OR what govt is calling Australia deal which is not a deal, but WTO arrangement with tariffs and the Irish protocol

Annihilated? Johnson only won 43% of the vote. Those calling for another Brexit referendum or to remain in the EU won 53% of the vote. It was our ridiculous, unfair electoral system that did for us plus the insanity of agreeing to an early election.

Every day, I see people telling us "the real environmental problem is population growth." Yes, it does contribute to the pressures on the natural world. But while the global population is rising by 1% a year, consumption is rising by 3%. That's the biggest issue.

Agreed. I have only come across 1 or 2 'sneering' academics. The vast majority of academics just hugely sad about Brexit (in some cases also angry with those who cynically orchestrated it for their own ends - but NOT with Leave voters in general). And we are now making best of it
