My favorite is Gold/Silver, which you can get on 3DS virtual console. If you have a way to pick up old DS titles, the remakes are excellent!
Trying to decide on a Pokemon game to play, I've played Yellow, Sapphire and Y but I want to try a different one, what should I go for? Any recommendations?

Gold/ Silver were the ones that I really really loved. It feels like they give you a lot more to do than any others - the postgame stuff especially is something I don’t think any others have got close to beating.

Another vote for Gold/Silver! I enjoyed Ruby/Sapphire too, but the endgame is so good in Gold/Silver - you get to go through the whole of Kanto.
