So there are only 600 people who support this? Isn't that a bit... unimpressive? I can write a tweet that will get more likes. If this is such a big issue, why don't people care? Maybe because it is not such a big issue?

Signing a paper requires much more than the 500ms it takes for liking a tweet. A fair comparison would be with another paper that got way more than 600 signatures.
