I agree with whoever said this.
Tropes just describe what you find in the books we enjoy. They recur because they’re fun or add to the stories in some other way.

We're getting it in the SF/F I'm reading these days. It's distracting, & maybe a bit overdone, but it's necessary if we are ever going to get to where all the characters are whatever they need to be to make a good story, and the diversity of the book matches that of its setting.

We need more queer perspectives on vampires? Have you read Anne Rice? What queer perspectives are we going to get with zombies? They eat each other? Gay people are afraid of them differently than straight people? Werewolves? Ok, sure. Probably not too much perspective on that.
