This situation is untenable and unacceptable. Faculty, graduate students, independent researchers, everyone who uses the SHD archives at Vincennes must band together to protest the imposition of these new rules. Our livelihood and our field depend on it. 6/fin

Without sounding too dramatic, the biggest threat is not to our field but to the health of French democracy. The ongoing saga of this institution for years suggests an unwillingness by the army to allow civilians access to its past, and a military mismanagement of these archives
