9 years ago yesterday I graduated med school. I trained for 10 years to provide care in . I'm smiling from ear to ear in this picture knowing my dream is coming true. Yesterday, the governor made my job caring for my community illegal. But today, I'm still here.

  2. The Buffalo-Niagara area is the 6th most segregated metro area in the country (it also suffers from profound economic segregation). It isn't a coincidence that a racist mass shooting by a white supremacist occurred there.

So when people ask what parents did before formula was available, please know that one historical answer to that question was (literally): slavery, rape, forced reproduction, forced breastfeeding labor, & denying early nutrition and care to Black infants. 6/7

Understanding (very basically) How Breasts Work allows my students to recognize the fact that these nursing women (commonly called “Mammies”) were also mothers & how Black children’s basic needs were denied in this system that prioritized wealthy, white children’s wellbeing. 5/7

It is apparently NOT common knowledge that Black women who were forced to breastfeed their white enslavers’ children were able to do this *specifically* because they had borne children of their own. 3/7

  9. Six years out of residency and I'm here to say those dudes never stop patting you on the head. Never. Keep asking questions. Keep those receipts. And don't donate a cent to professional PACs until they center the communities we serve in their agendas -- not our reimbursements.

  10. When I first started questioning these donations as a medical student and resident, a lot of "leaders" patted me on the head and said I'd understand one day. Reimbursements, insurance, have to play both sides... If you don't donate you don't have a voice...

  11. Yes. As a , I've known and it's why I've never donated to the ACOG PAC. Why does ACOG do it? For that matter, why does AMA & TMA do it? Follow the money... Quite literally.

It doesn’t matter why someone is using formula. It only matters that they need to feed their baby. A formula shortage is a crisis. It doesn’t matter why someone needs an abortion. It only matters that they need to be not pregnant. An abortion ban is a crisis.

Hi. Someone who has worked in repro for a decade & tired of politico bros who haven't paid attention to this issue and suddenly spouting off ignorant takes. We have been asking everyone for years to move away from the word "choice" for many reasons. This isn't new.

  15. If you look up William Lloyd Garrsion, HE is the example of a white Ally. The point is, if you're white, the BEST way to be remembered as a white ally vest your allyship in a system created to deny Black people's freedom, while risking nothing.

  16. None of those Black dudes left the Vigilance Committee. They weren't even mad. Because they understood the limits of white allyship. The Black folks knew white allies would only go so far to fight for Black people's freedom--even in the name of White Jesus.

  17. They are offered by historians as an example of white allyship. William Lloyd Garrison may be the most famous white abolitionist EVER. They supposedly opposed slavery on the grounds of Christian ideals. But when push came to shove, they only went so far.

  18. I’m getting pretty exhausted of Democrats telling us to vote our way out of this abortion crisis—we already voted. We been voting. So when they say vote for us to protect abortion, I’m simply asking how? After we vote, then what? Where’s the plan?
