Many traditions begin for reasons that were sound - or at least seemed so - at the time. But if all you have to defend a practice is the 'tradition' that is attached to it, you prove that the original reason for the tradition to be founded is no longer valid.

Not really? I just meant that a lot of traditionalism (maybe not fascist death-cult stuff, but more mundane stuff) is about metaphorically refusing to throw ANYTHING away, no matter how useless it is or how much it's become a tripping and/or fire hazard.
