    Who lost China? 1949 Who lost Vietnam? 1975 Who lost Afghanistan? 2021 The "experts" always ask what the US did or didn't do. But that framing assumes the US is the main/driving factor—not always the case. We're still so poor at understanding places and histories not our own.

    Virginia's gubernatorial race in 2021 will set the tone for the 2022 midterm elections. Democrats want it to be a referendum on Trumpism. Republicans want it to be a referendum on Bidenism.

    In the wake of Rick Santorum’s firing by CNN, can I offer a small proposal? Fire all the paid politicians on cable and replace them with journalists and columnists. Go back to the old era when reporters questioned former senators and didn’t see them as cable news colleagues.
