This is a real issue. The IRC bridge that @katacontainers uses is ok, but is not the experience we should be pushing for as open source developershttps://twitter.com/jeremyeder/status/973232526104973312 …

Isn’t that bridge being shut down by
@SlackHQ ? Also, keep in mind, there is a new generation of OpenSource devs growing up who only knows Slack…1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
It is being shut down by them - but the
@kubernetesio project /@linuxfoundation should really be reconsidering their choice, and not tie open source devs to a walled garden.2 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -

Since corps use Slack/Hipchat that is less friction for (new-to-opensource) devs than IRC. I had more than one dev refuse to participate in
@OpenStack because of IRC instead Slack! By using video, Google groups, etc. they already planted themselves firmly in the walled garden --1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

I would say anyone how refuses to work on something because of their tooling is being quite shortsighted. What was the reasoning? Other than IRC is hard, or I want gifs.

Seamless voice and screen share. Offline archival with no work. There are nice features. But I still think it’d be horrible to require.
