In April 2014 they issued 11,000 tickets. In April of this year, only 350, a 97% decrease in 8 years
45 officers issue ~10 citations per day in total
This is not explained by COVID, they've simply stopped doing this work:
We def should not send cops to any of these "problems". That won't fix anything except save your inner suburbanite from seeing something uncomfortable at the cost of someone at best being kicked off the train with a fine they can't pay and at worst getting killed. Not worth it.

Transit on its own can't solve poverty. And there doesn't seem to be any great "solution" to drugs on transit, except like an ambassador just asking them to stop I guess? I think it's pretty complicated.

I get that the perception of safety is a big deterrent to people riding transit, but I think we have to keep things in perspective and realize ppl have hard times, and are largely fine, even if you're uncomfortable.
