Breaking: DA Brooke Jenkins just told Keita O'Neil's family that she intends to dismiss the charges against Christopher Samayoa, according to family & attorney. Samayoa was San Francisco's first-ever SF cop charged with homicide for an on-duty killing.

this is what SF moderates always wanted: carte blanche for cops to execute at will. all their crocodile tears for Tyre Nichols or George Floyd or anyone else were always for the sake of political expediency

The same Supervisor who says that the $1B going to police isn't enough also says housing people costs too much. Its as if his job is to keep the problems going.

@SFUnified’s staffing shortage is at least as catastrophic as the police department, but isn’t getting nearly as much attention.

This is bad advice. Ten years from now, you need to be able to say you made the most money you could and put your job ahead of human relationships, ideally living somewhere you hate.

My old professor’s advice for those in their 20s: “ten years from now, you need to be able to say that this is the life you chose, not one you settled for.” A future that is created intentionally is more pleasant than one that is scrapped together by avoidance-driven choices.

Like, most socialists I know are very into the Luxury Gay Space Communism meme. That is very much about prod and luxury, but in a way that doesn't destroy the environment. And I certainly think there are real criticisms to be made! And who would defend cruise ships? They suck.

As a socialist that believes our failing climate is the largest threat to humanity going forward, this thread feels pretty straw-man-y. And I get that's part of the fun of tweter, but feels bad man. Also seems like some wires are crossed with older envo movements w/ socialists

So we have learnt that to save the planet, we must have no pets, no children, no books, no planes, no cruise ships, no meat (even synthetic meat), no cars, no mining, but don’t worry, there’ll still be bikes and buses (somehow provisioned without mining).

cops treat bikers (esp Black/brown bikers) like shit and let drivers get away with murder. they have never kept anybody safe, their sole purpose in existence is to inflict state violence on marginalized people

Horrible and worthless NYPD officers bullying and arresting a young black boy for riding his bike on the sidewalk. There were at least 25 cops just standing around. Abolish the fucking police.

It’s true transit mega projects cost way too much in America and we need reform. It’s also true that those concerned about cost overruns rarely also point out how expensive freeways are, especially considering roads represent a significantly larger % of infrastructure spending

In advance of all the potential takes that will happen today with Biden announcing the first major Hudson Tunnel Project construction grant: Tunnel is good. Build Tunnel. If we want costs do go down and timelines to get shorter, we should build more tunnels more often.

Statistically, SFPD have stopped enforcing traffic laws In April 2014 they issued 11,000 tickets. In April of this year, only 350, a 97% decrease in 8 years 45 officers issue ~10 citations per day in total This is not explained by COVID, they've simply stopped doing this work:
