We have terminated the employment of the two men involved in the mistreatment of Mr. Massey. Their actions were inconsistent with our standards & values. We reiterate our sincere apology for what he endured & will work with diversity experts to ensure this never happens again.

The problem with current diversity training is that it teaches people to be “accepting” of other races. We need diversity training that teaches people that their race does not make them superior & hence they are in no position to decide the “acceptance” of other races.

Well stated. The attitude that one can “accept” another is already down the wrong path.

So many opportunities to stop Earl & apologize to Jermaine Massey 1. After he told you he was a guest there 2. After he showed you his key card 3. After you visually saw his belongings in your hotel WHY DID IT NOT END THERE? Why did he have to be evicted? #DoubleTreePortland

I know what you mean: it is astonishing and unforgivable that this was allowed to be escalated to the level it was.

The thought of being in a strange city and being kicked out of the hotel room I paid for at midnight with no refund is horrifying to me. For some people, that could mean having to sleep in their car or, on the street. I don't feel I can trust your establishments.

@doubletree I will like to in form you that I will not be patronizing any of your establishments hence forward. Your brand is tainted, and your customer service is deplorable. Surely your HR and hiring apparatus is broken. Thank you and goodbye.

If Mr. Massey paid in full for a night/s at your hotel, I hope you reimbursed him. If it were me, I'd be suing you.

That's great, but I would like to see a top down culture teaching program initiated, very publicly. You obviously have a problem with diversity issues among your staff.

I have a better idea. Instead of working with a diversity expert, have a company create a psychological evaluation test for each employee, and those that show bias, racism, sexism, homophobia etc are terminated and with each new hire, they need to pass the psych eval.

This is a nightmare, naive and unrealistic proposal. Have you ever worked in the service industry? Managed anywhere? Pass a psych eval for bias in a minimum wage job? You'd fail just for your Twitter handle.

I run businesses - there is simply no way to control the behavior of each employee at all times. People bring their own upbringing, personality to the job that no training program can possibly eradicate. Judge employers on how they respond. DT responded instantly and decisively.
