I have a 2011 15” MBP. It’s been dead with pure static for a while. Definitely a GPU failure with symptoms it had before the static screen. Would you be interested in fixing it for me?

I tried to do the r8911 and efivars mod without success. I’ll have to replace the resistor and try your method. Good thing I kept my spare 13” i5s laying around. If I still have no success what would you charge? I live in Minnesota and I travel all over the USA for work.

Another idea I’ve had is to swap in a 2.6/2.7 i7 non retina mid 2012 logic board with the 650M and get away from the radeongate board altogether. Opinions? Love you posts by the way. Nice seeing old hardware revived.

Well I did the nvram trick and got video back, did internet recovery which got 10.7 back up as 10.12.5 usb installer is having the dreaded InstallInfo.plist issue but works on my other MacBooks. However I just did 10.9 installer,took 3.5 hours,was success,now froze on shutdown.
