I've got a similar problem. I installed the software update patch with the post install tool but I'm having issues with the app store. Showing up there are 2 updates but telling me "Cannot connect to the store" I also run the catalog url reset but nothing works.
Make sure Software Update Patch is installed, and ensure CatalogURL is reset. You can do this by running "sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog" in Terminal.
