      I have a 2011 imac which I want to bare minimum upgrade on OS - should I aim for Catalina or play low with Mojave? Does this even matter if I m going to download a patcher for either?

      Unfortunately, unless you've upgraded the video card, the stock Radeon HD 6xxx series card used in those is not supported under either Mojave or Catalina.

          I got it working on a stock radeon HD 6770m that came with the computer with the Catalina patcher tysm for the hard work you put into the patcher @dosdude1
