That part usually takes awhile, but shouldn't take that long. You can try just force rebooting it and see if it finished successfully.

well 3 hours later, it moved and now it’s almost done, fingers crossed it finishes

It may not be a bad idea to upgrade to an SSD. Something taking that long almost surely indicates a failing hard disk.
