Had to downgrade from Catalina back to El Capitan as on my 5,2 when I plugged in an external display, it would just throw me back to a login screen and get stuck in a loop. This wouldn't happen without it plugged in. Belkin adapter to HDMI.
Set the date back to September of 2019, then it'll work. Use "date 090100019" in Terminal.
