You think you know but you have NO idea what that meant practically to my career. None. I mean...I could blow some people up but won't.

Anyway, today with hindsight I look fortunate. I wrote the book I wanted and had some minor impact on meaningful conversations. I paid a price for that: I deal with a lot of professional envy and I will never be acknowledged by my professional gatekeepers.

Worse, I am doubling down! lol I am so contrary. My next book and maybe another will do the same thang. It's what I do and more importantly it is what I think I am here to do, as in on this earth

I had a job when I left to go to grad school. I was looking for more and I found it. But it means I am bad at the job of academia because I am more invested in the life work of knowledge. I promise you I almost never cry over being snubbed because I know I made these choices

So thank you for acknowledging my work. Thank you for trying to interject me into conversations. I sincerely appreciate it. It's okay when it doesn't work. And it can be valuable to know why it doesn't work.

Better even because I will tell you a secret: people would kill for what I have. They don't want to pay the price for it but they'd kill for it. I am a fortunate albeit weirdly adjacent scholar. Best of all, I get to do it all while being me.

The real tragedy is that so few people who look like me ever survive this gauntlet or get their due. Let's lift their work up! Nominate it. Vote for it. But it. Assign it. https://www.blackfeminisms.com/resources/black-women-academics/ …
