      @menysnoweballes It can. When I was a brand-new PhD my roommate had just finished so other desk unoccupied for a whole year. Very hard start

      .@ellisnilsson despite working at home I would generally see people every day anyway, so I felt less isolated. & I had a PhD housemate :)

      @ellisnilsson It's interesting - my colleagues very welcoming! & I didn't find Parisians rude at all. But social groups hard to break into.
