I get what that Tweet saying Cleary was special to Generation X was getting at: Ramona was written for our generation. Look at the publication years. Those books were different than Henry's, which my mother said she remembered reading as a kid. Cleary changed with the times.

Henry was written when the Boomers were kids. Ramona was written when Gen Xers were kids. After we grew up, Boomer and Xer parents, caregivers, teachers, and librarians shared these beloved books with kids. This is how the children's canon is formed (and re-formed).
