as much as academics (rightly) complain about journalists not citing their work, so many contemporary pop culture essays by academics either don't cite bloggers/journos "hot takes" or don't. even. bother. to. Google. it is astounding. We all need to be better.

RIGHT? A"slow take" piece in an academic journal needs to do so much *more* than repeat what the blogs/Twitter say without citation. That's not scholarship--it's the Reader's Digest in reverse! And if you study this stuff and you don't follow what the net is saying? just as bad.

Related to this: academic “slow takes” that don’t bother to account for journalists, bloggers, twitter etc. are also bypassing BIPOC perspectives entirely in the process.
