Surely the PRO? Have you tried there? Otherwise, one of the Inns?

Everyone seems to cite it and even quote the same things but no one says the full shelf mark. It is hair pulling.

Martha Carlin cites them in detail in Medieval Southwark. They are in the PRO, and one I've looked at (working from old notes here) has E179/185/230 as the shelf mark (tho I think that one is 16th c.--don't recall how far back it goes).

That book is difficult to get in ILL.

The 1380-1 poll tax return? It is in the National Archives, Kew. http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/e179/details.asp?direct=1 …

If the link doesn't work - the E 179 material is described in a separate database to the main catalogue - it is E 179/184/30. It has been edited by Carolyn Fenwick for the BA Social and Economic History Record Series (in her vol. 2).

If you put E 179/184/30 into the search button here it takes you to the Southwark subsidy roll: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/e179/default.asp … (I can't get a direct link to work, I'm sorry). The full reference is now TNA, E 179/184/30.
