I don't think anywhere in my tweet or Professor Hendrick's thread that's implied.

Thank you for clarifying. It was the tweet about being asked to refuse to write on BIPoC histories - I guess I misread it as meaning ‘at all’ and looking back she doesn’t quite say that. Sorry - very very long week.

Indigenous studies has an entire methodological protocol and discussion about this. There are several decades of scholarship, white papers, reports about this. There is an entire separate area called settler colonial studies.

Yes, thank you. I’m aware of the field. Though always happy to receive more useful reading recommendations! This was a specific question about this particular thread.

So maybe the question is more who are the co-creators and collaborators?

That is an excellent question and one which I’m trying to bring into my research. It’s difficult, as Mexica history does not have the same ‘tribal’ continuities, and my project ends c1600, which seems to be earlier than most Indigenous community histories. But you have to try.

Didn’t anthro have a bunch of discussions about this recently especially after the anthro journal hot mess that happened. Also I believe the Black archaeologists have discussed this in regards to ethical method (what to do if you cannot find direct descendants).

I’m not sure if I know about the journal mess or not - there seem to be so many of those! Any pointers to where to look would be appreciated.

It’s the journal of American anthropology and the display of images on the cover of their last issue. But the discussions in #anthrotwitter discuss that. Not to mentioning the attempt at renaming the Berkeley anthro building
