my two pence about the SAA statement is that for one of our societies to commit its membership to anti-racism in their scholarly praxis is a very powerful move that goes way beyond the usual “we were shocked” statements most orgs put out

yes, that may well be true - some of the response may well be due to previous experiences with SAA that predate more recent change, or to experiences with the other organisations. I won’t blame people for assuming all big scholarly societies are shit ;-)
