my two pence about the SAA statement is that for one of our societies to commit its membership to anti-racism in their scholarly praxis is a very powerful move that goes way beyond the usual “we were shocked” statements most orgs put out

Also there is something going on that everyone just assumed it was a white white whiteness org. It is almost as if the statement did not adhere to what they expected from the org. Of course this means they skipped the last so many years of what was up.

it may be that people find it hard, considering their experience with basically all the societies, to conceive one of them may be speaking with anything other than a white voice.
