Sadly this is life in the UK, and it still weirds me out.https://twitter.com/Pearlofwisdommm/status/1258827112204644353 …

I'm glad ours is in the kitchen so they can go straight out on the washing line through the back door! But I can see why it seems weird. So few UK bathrooms have space for one, even if the electricity wasn't an issue

It’s a major misconception that we have ours in the bathroom as a rule. That’s also fairly rare. Usually in pantry/closet/basement/garage, and in apt buildings, usually a set of pay machines in the basement.

Ok! Well hardly most UK houses are not big enough for those!! And I am glad that when I lived in a flat I had one in my apartment kitchen rather than paying to share use of one! When I lived in France the washing machine was in the bathroom.

I suspect my water bill is higher with the apt kitchen one. I think the other thing about the US stuff though is that it would be incredibly rare to have a washer and not a dryer, and few apts have space/hookups for both.

Yes true. I know many Americans are baffled that a lot of Brits don't have a tumble dryer. I did not until I became a home owner, 14 years after I left home to go to uni...

I have two main priorities whenever I go back to the US: eat a proper burger, and do as many loads of laundry and enjoy soft warm clothes as possible. 😂

I actually really dig Swedish apartment laundry rooms. They are like mini-laundromats. You sign up for 4 hour block times and then they have multiple washing machines and dryers, usually a drying closet and even a mangle. The drying closet is amazeballs.

That also was included in rent. So no coin anything.

I kind of love mangles. Who knew you did not need an iron to press all your linens and tablecloths. Also the drying closet is amazing for things that hate tumble dryers.
