Language uses such as extreme, slacktivst, outrage culture , misplaced anger, etc is in itself inflammatory. Not saying they cannot use it. Just saying the rest of us can disagree and voice that disagreement.

I agree with you completely. And I support 100% your right to voice that disagreement, Emily. I thought that your comments at the panel were great. My only point in all of this has been that I'm glad the panel occurred, and I hope it leads to more dialogue, not less.

And, again, I wish that the makeup of the panel had been different. I certainly hope that the makeup of future panels is different.

But have you spoken to THEM about this,
@profwmsmith? You've come to various scholars on "this side" repeatedly to push back on narratives and urge compassion for these scholars, but are you doing that work with them as well?4 replies 1 retweet 22 likes -

I want to respond to your questions carefully and thoroughly, which is not easy on Twitter, so please bear with me. 1/

First, I talked to Dan Franke after the session. I told him that I found the discussion productive but that I wished the panel had been composed of more diverse voices. 2/

Last night, as
@ISASaxonists has mentioned, I commented on a tweet of his, expressing my desire that both sides engage in real dialogue and criticizing his characterization of this debate as “endless war.”2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Second, I don’t think I’ve been pushing back much on this thread. Emily and I were at the same session, and she has characterized it accurately. I initially posted to push back against the idea that the session should not have occurred at all. 4/

Third, I would not ask for compassion for scholars on the other side. I would just ask for dialogue with them.

Finally, I apologize for referring to “anger” from
@ISASaxonists. I don’t remember the tweet in question, but I see any anger on her part as justified and did not intend any other rhetorical move. And, for the record, I see anger on the other side as well.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
The ones who are happy to do things to send violent white supremacist rape and death threats are way. Anger b/c violent white supremacy, racism, rape culture, harassment vs. anger b/c I have white fragility is not equivalent. Your analysis is terrible.

So we shouldn't be "angry" b/c we have people trying to encourage death threats & rape threats against us. What planet do you live on. And do you actually read what you are written. This is Violence Against Women 101.
