You have hit exactly on my problem with your tweets, Helen! Let’s not talk “about” what MOC want but rather talk with MOC. I honestly think education and discussion can combat racism, and I hope you come to believe that as well.

Hi Kathryn -- no disrespect meant here, but if you'd been paying attention to the conversation you'd know that literally no MOC have come out saying that they want the organization preserved. No one can speak for all, but the voice of those active in the conversation is clear.

I hear you, but Helen is saying that trying to transform the society is a racist action and has accused my friend of racism. I just can’t see how wanting trying to transform an academic society to be better is racist?

Many people, in particular
@ISASaxonists and@dorothyk98, have discussed how ISXX is firmly entrenched in white supremacy. We can't do the work to reform because its governing structures are elitist & racist, and the board is unwilling to change or challenge that.2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

And just because they say it doesn't mean it's unambiguously right. There are more voices than those of the people you mention. It's an issue worthy of respectful, intelligent discussion among pdoe of good will. Blanketly dubbing everyone a racist who disagrees is bullshit.

It doesn't. But I do think it's the duty of white people (myself obviously included) to reflect when called racist rather than lash out. As well as to listen to POC, obvi.

Oh, so teaching at an HBCU for years doesn't equate to reflection? Please explain that to me.

How did teaching at an HBCU not make clear that white ppl should always center the most vulnerable? Did we skip this anti racism training 101. Your HBCU is not a shield. This is like the group version of I have a black friend/family. My fascist stalker teaches at an HBCU.

And somehow your expertise b/c you have the HBCU shield vs. the lived experiences of BIPOC ppl is really demonstrating your antiracism? This is basic allyship 101: Do not make BIPOC ppl your shield. Listen. Stop centering whiteness. I could go on.

I could throw back at you the lived experiences of a trans person. You know nothing about it. The one card you got is calling people racist. You rely on the fact that folks will buy it regardless of its truth value. I'm all in. Lets go.

Here is the thing, we are not going to come back to ISXX. It is a toxic white supremacist org. It is a waste of our time and energy. We have already spent too much on it. We are out.

I'm not asking for you to come back. I respect that. I would just ask, in return, that you respect my choice (a considered one) to try to do what good I can. Obviously, it's up to you. As far as I am concerned, we see eye to eye on this, even if we disagree respectfully...Cont

But if people libel me by calling me a transphobe or a racist, or whatever, I will take those lies head. on. every. time. My dm's are open. Or you can write me publicly. I am open to criticism, and-even more-to guidance on how to do things better....
