#MedievalTwitter Just a reminder that we have the example of Allen Frantzen for people wringing their hands about how his scholarship has done so much for queer theory. Of course if you read his scholarship, you would realize it's deeply racist and also he is against queer theory

So
#MedievalTwitter someone's scholarly work or declaration that they are antifascist etc. etc. does nothing to actually demonstrate if they are actually interested in antifascism, antiracism, and the work it requires to do those things.1 reply 1 retweet 22 likesShow this thread -
#MedievalTwitter Or I can point to the piece that came out in September. Tolkien demonstrated his antifascism, but he was racist and sexist. He was also my academic grandfather. If the fascists love your stuff and quote you, you have to consider why. https://daily.jstor.org/the-question-of-race-in-beowulf/ …2 replies 0 retweets 30 likesShow this thread -
and
#MedievalTwitter I wrote "Teaching in a Time of White Supremacy" but we need another piece "Being a Scholar in a Time of White Supremacy" The point holds for both, what are you doing to make yourself & what you say & what you do not be fascist/white supremacist catnip?2 replies 4 retweets 36 likesShow this thread
And as for the #MedievalTwitter crowd in Europe & the UK, I see you wish to not attend to any of the points, comments, or discussions from BIPOC scholars (the few there are) in your own communities. What is that other than white supremacy & continued refusal to address racism.
